WHY SOME EXERSISES ARE INSTRUCTED DIFFERENTLY FROM INSTUCTOR TO INSTRUCTOR?
As does Yoga, so does Pilates have different styles. All Pilates exercises may differ in tempo or in breathing style. But what remaines the same in all pilates styles is the basic principles of “core”,“focus”, “control”, “accuracy”, “breathing”, “flow”, that all good Pilates Instructors try to teach to theirstudents. These principles exist in every exercise and class. When we perform the exercises taking account of these principles we become more conscious, balanced, sufficient and harmonized with life outside the class.More specifically Pilates Styles are:Classical Pilates: sometimes called “authentic” or “true pilates”.It is a general name that is used for the style that follows strictly the method as that was teached by Joseph Pilates himself. Contemporary Pilates: is based on the work of Mr. Pilates but has been modernized by adjusting the exercises to fit with modern research and has a heavy influence from physical therapy and bio-mechanics. Many exercises remain the same, but a whole new slew of exercises have been added, or variations have been added allowing for injury rehabilitation and creativity by theinstructor.Rehabilitative Pilates: as the name itself describes it, its the style of Pilates that exercises are mostly used for rehabilitation of chronic and recent injuries.
IN YOUR STUDIO WHAT STYLE DO YOU TEACH?
In Our Studio Instructors represent the following stylesPower Pilates = classical or trueBasi Pilates=contemporaryBalanced Body Pilates= contemporaryThe istructor, whatever style he is teaching, brings in class his own life experience and way of decoding the exersices in order for you to benefit from. We suggest you to take classes with all our Instructors. You will be able to learn and benefit from each one. Embrace this difference as a way to gain a deeper knowledge for your body. The main priciples remain the same when you perform pilates exercises.
WHY DO I FEEL BACK NECKPAIN WHEN I RAISE MY HEAD OFF THE MAT?
Many people feels tension in the the area of neck, when raises the head oof the mat. To make it more easy, you have to embrace your powerhouse before beginning any movement. When your core is activated you will manage to perform the abs and raise your head using your whole spine and not only your back neck. In this way the tension will be transfered to the inner abs. You must also, refrain from looking to the ceiling when raising the head off the mat. Instead stay focused to your belly and the middle of your thighs. Last, but not least, this may occur because the powerhouse has worked too much and the whole work is conducted by the back neck. When this happens, stop for a while and then you will be able to perform the exercise. Listen to your body and with consistency and patience you will avoid tension to the back neck.
HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO TAKE PILATES CLASSES IN ORDER TO SEE RESULTS?
Joseph Pilates said that in 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 you’ll see the difference and in 30 sessions you’ll have a new body. Our experience says that after one session you will feel taller, thiner, with more energy. But do not stop there. For more results you need to have at least 2 sessons per week.
I AM DOING SPORT. WHAT PILATES CAN HELP ME WITH;
With sports and athletic activities, usually muscle imbalances occur.Pilates comes to correct these imbalances, give balance and harmony to the movement.
CAN I LOSE WEIGHT DOING PILATES;
Pilates is an anaerobic exercise.It can certainly become aerobic when someone knows the exercises and can execute them with flow, along with an instructor’s guidance.  This happens of course in a more advanced level. On the other hand, pilates can help burning fat, using the resistance that the pilates equipment offer. With resistance, muscles are stimulated and develop, so you can lose more calories during your everyday activity
DOES PILATES HELP IN BACK PAIN CONDITIONS;
Pilates emphasizes in strengthening the core. It  differs from other kind of exercises because it focuses on the muscles that support our back. Each exercise starts by engaging and activating these muscles first.
CAN I BE PART OF A GROUP CLASS WHILE HAVING BACK PAIN OR NECK PAIN;
Basic principles of pilates method, are hard to be taught in a group class. When there is a history of injury or pain generally, specific exercises need to be avoided in order to prevent deterioration. Those who face similar problems are advised, if they can afford it, to attend individual sessions, for a certain period of time.
